The Weekend

Our weekend got off to an early start because Mike didn't have to work Friday. It should have been a day full of family time and running a few last minute errands before Mike left; however, my body had differant plans. I woke up really sick and spent the whole day in bed (except for my doctor appointment which I lucked out scheduling the same day). So, Mike spent the day caring for me and taking care of the girls, the first time in a while he's been their sole caregiver. He did a wonderful job, and Ivie did wonderfully well with him and her potty training. Friday was the first day she actually said she needed to go potty before it happened! As I was lying in bed, I kept thinking to myself that me being so sick couldn't have come at a worse time: bummed that Mike had to deal with so much just before leaving and feeling like we were having a crummy last day together for a month. But, it dawned on me how wonderful the time was that he was able to spend with the girls. I'm sure he was a bit overwhelmed at times, but the girls had his constant attention, and he had theirs.
Saturday morning, the girls and I dropped him off at work and we came home. I did the best I could to care for them while being sick and well medicated. Ivie's loved the snuggle time in our bed and the Dora marathon. Potty training hasn't been a priority, but she is still trying.
Mike phoned this morning. The connection was worse than any we experienced in Iraq, but he wanted to check on me and let me know that he made it there just fine. After we lost our connection, Ivie said to me "Daddy at work, he's not in the phone".
I am feeling a little better today, although my fever returned this afternoon. I've been resting a lot and hopefully, soon, I'll be back to my normal self.
