Mike ended up having a mixed reviews from his doctor appointment this morning. The pins came out and bandages/splint off and his finger is straight. His finger looks pretty bad (I saw it on a video chat). Not an unexpected bad, but I honestly had no idea what to expect to see when the bandages finally came off. He is very upset about how it looks. But, it does look like it was slammed in a 400+ pound door, so definitely nothing surprising with that. It's discolored, and "chewed up" as he put it. As expected, he has very little ROM. He was hoping for a little more movement and he got the impression that his doc felt the same way. He actually said that the doc seemed not so impressed with how it look either. Doc gave him a little ball to use to help improve the ROM, which she said can be done, but it'll take a while. When he makes a fist, his finger sticks straight out, but not up, so luckily it doesn't look like his flipping people off. He's a little concerned he'll some a bit of adjustment back at work but I am encouraging him to use it as much like normal as possible to help get it back in shape. It has been nearly 2 months since he's been able to use it, so I'm sure there will be a little adjustment period.
Despite all that, doc cleared him to return to duty! He was glad that she did that for him; he's definitely ready to go back. His company has moved to a different COP (I have no idea what that stands for) and I have no idea where that is. Mike's buddy emailed him a little bit of info, none of which I can share here, but it seems like he's in a little bit crazier of an area. I'll admit I've definitely enjoyed having him safe and sound where he's been, so I'll have a little bit of adjusting to do with that. One he makes it back to Iraq he'll be able to call on a secure line and get more details so he'll be better prepared for what's in front of him. He'll be flying out soon and I"ll let you all know when he's made it there.
Ivie has been a bit more vocal about Mike being gone and when he'll return and that's been a little sad for me to deal with. She has asked, more than once, if we can go to the airport to get daddy and when will daddy come home to stay. I simply tell her daddy's not done working at far away work, but when he is, we'll go to post to pick him up and he'll get to stay. I guess we'll deal with the possibility of a third deployment as that time comes. She's also taken on an imaginary friend name Jaden. He calls her, comes to play and even brings her candy. It's definitely a little weird for me to get used to, but he seems pretty harmless! He and Ivie see, to have some of the same conversations that she and I have, or ones that she hears me having on the phone.
I need to get back to my laundry, but I'll be in touch!
